Showtime

Since Bryan Cranston’s Your Honor hit Netflix it has absolutely dominated streaming ratings. The first season originally debuted on Showtime on December 6, 2020 and season 2 premiered just over two years later on January 15, 2023 but it wasn’t until it hit Netflix and Paramount+ that Your Honor exploded.

In the most recent week of Nielsen’s streaming ratings, Your Honor was #1 with 1.58 BILLION minutes watched. Dexter was #2 with 1.48 billion minutes watched and Hulu’s The Bear was #3 with 1.233 billion minutes watched.

Will There Be A ‘Your Honor’ Season 3? Here’s What We Know

With all of the hype surrounding Your Honor after it hit Netflix and Paramount+, everyone is wondering if Your Honor will get a season 3. The short answer is ‘maybe’ and star Bryan Cranston has expressed interest as well as CBS Studios’ David Stapf.

Speaking about the show, President of CBS Studios David Stapf said “we’re extremely proud of the show and knew how good it was. Having it air on another platform, we anticipated more people discovering it; audiences always find things that are good.

But what about a season 3??? CBS Studios President David Stapf spoke about hte potential of a season 3, telling Deadlinewe love the show, and we’re hoping that it can continue, but it’s a little too soon to know or to tell. We would like there to be a Season 3 but we’re ways away.

At a bare minimum, that’s encouraging. It at least signals interest from the head of CBS Studios into the possibility of a Season 3.

What about Bryan Cranston’s interest in a Your Honor season 3?

Here is where things get a little complicated but let me say upfront that yes, Cranston who is both the star and an Executive Producer has also expressed interest in a season 3.

However, the fact that Your Honor ever got a season 2 was a bit surprising as the show, which is based on the Israeli series Kvodo, was only ever supposed to be a limited-series and 1 season. It wasn’t until Showtime saw how highly-rated Season 1 of Your Honor was that plans for a Season 2 were set in motion.

Potential Season 2 Spoilers Ahead

Prior to signing on for Season 2, Bryan Cranston stipulated that he wanted to explore the grief of his character Judge Michael Desiato, after his son Adam was murdered in the final scene of Season 1.

On an episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast back in 2022, Bryan Cranston said “If this really happened and you lost a child, it changes your life forever. So if you really want to show a man in abject despair, if there is any possibility of a life beyond that, let’s do it. But it has to be incrementally discovered.”

Presumably, if Bryan Cranston were to sign for Season 3 of Your Honor he would want to explore his character’s new life after Season 2 ended with Judge Desiato clearing his conscience, coming clean about Adam, and the final scene showing him walking into a prison with a gate locking behind him in a scene that leads viewers to believe he admitted more but that scene is also very open ended in the same way the opening scenes of Season 2 were with Cranston’s character in prison.

Bryan Cranston On Chance Of Season 3: ‘Fantastic’

Now, going back to March and prior to Your Honor exploding on Netflix, Bryan Cranston spoke with Deadline about the possibility of a Your Honor Season 3. At that time, he said “There is some discussion. Showtime has indicated there is interest. If it happens, fantastic, but it’d have to be some great reason to keep expanding in this world.

Based on those quotes, it seems as if the scripts for a Your Honor Season 3 would need to be incredible. But given where Season 2 left off, with Cranston entering a prison, it would seem as if the structure of the show fundamentally changed and many of the characters would no longer be relevant.

What would be cool to see, in my humble opinion, is a Your Honor season 3 that works as a prequel and leads up to the murder of Judge Desiato’s wife. We know she was an investigative journalist in New Orleans who was having an extramarital affair. And we knew Judge Desiato had overseen countless cases in New Orleans.

Those plot points would make for an incredible Season 3, as would the reemergence of Adam Desiatio and all of his side story include the affair with his teacher which went completely unmentioned in Season 2.

At this point, if I was a gambling man, I’d put the chances of a Season 3 at an even 50/50 coin flip. CBS Studios is interested. Bryan Cranston is interested if the storyline is right. And it’s the #1 show in streaming right now. They’d be foolish not to move forward with a Your Honor Season 3 given the current hype.
