Maybe they didn’t have snacks at the SNL 50th anniversary concert, because Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer just made a delicious meal out of the lyrics to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
The Saturday Night Live alumni teamed up to reprise their characters Marty and Bobbi Mohan-Culp at the Peacock-broadcast musical celebration. After some extended banter and dropping of Gen-Z appropriate terms (including a moment that led to Meryl Streep flipping the pair on stage off), the Culps embarked upon a medley of old and new favorites, including Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby,” Kim Petras and Sam Smith’s “Unholy,” and Doechii’s “CATFISH.”
The highlight was when they tore into the Grammy-winning anti-Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” luxuriating in the lyric “A Minor” for a few beats. Then Ferrell— sorry, Marty — asked if Lamar and Drake were in the house, proposing that the two men call a true. “Maybe you can hug it out tonight in the name of love and fellowship? No? Not in hell?”
The duo then closed things out with a cover of Chappell Roam’s “Good Luck, Babe.” Guess they were watching this year’s Grammys.
The SNL50 concert also featured performances from Nirvana with Post Malone, Jack White, Miley Cyrus, Eddie Vedder, Robyn and David Byrne, Fugees, The B-52s and Devo, plus Lady Gaga sang “Dick in the Box”
