Doctor Who season two has been done for a couple of weeks. And boy, did it leave us with a major cliffhanger after Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper. We still aren’t sure if Piper, who previously played popular companion Rose Tyler, is the new Doctor or not. And many fans feel quite nervous that they won’t get the answer to that burning question. Everyone is asking one big question right now. Will Doctor Who return for season three? So far, there’s no word, but Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies believes the show will never truly end.

In a recent issue of Doctor Who Magazine (which we learned about from Variety), Davies admitted that he doesn’t have an answer about season three. For now, he’s taking a break with writing until there’s more information. “We don’t know what’s happening yet,” Davies wrote. “ Hopefully, we’ll have news soon.”

DOCTOR WHO’s Finale Stuns Fans With a Unexpected Ending That Changes Its Future

But Davies believes that Doctor Who will always be around. “Doctor Who will never end!” he wrote. “There are pathways leading to potential futures — we’ve still got the mystery of that bright and blazing ending, ‘Oh, hello,’ yes indeed, hello Billie!”

Technically, he isn’t wrong. There are hundreds of episodes of this decades-long series that are available on streaming services. Fans get together at conventions and write fanfic about their favorite characters. And, the expansive audio world of Big Finish tells stories that the series doesn’t have the time and space to explore. So, in a way, Doctor Who truly won’t end.

However, this still doesn’t mean that we will get new episodes. Disney+ could pull the plug and unceremoniously end this era. If that happens, it would be sad to see Doctor Who leave TV after 20 years of going strong and not return for season three. But, everything does have its time and everything eventually ends. We just hope that we get a little longer with our favorite alien and that beautiful TARDIS.
