Besides the irresistible free samples and unbeatable hot dog deal, most shoppers’ day-to-day runs to Costco involve picking up bulk essentials at a great price. However, as the most savvy members know, the warehouse retailer is also a solid resource for great deals on electronics and appliances. But even at the right price, is it the right move to pick up a big-ticket item like a TV from Costco? Surprisingly, customers have weighed in on the experience with almost entirely good things to say.

What’s it like to buy a TV at Costco?

In today’s shopping climate, customers also often turn to social media to alert others of fantastic deals or answer specific questions. In a recent Reddit post, one shopper did just that by polling the public on what it was like to buy a TV from Costco.

“I don’t know that it’ll fit in my car, so I may go the online route, but I’d just like to get a feel of how you all feel about your purchases,” they wrote.

Specifically, they wanted to know if the quality of their purchases ended up being what they expected, if there was anything to avoid, and whether or not the items felt “like it was ‘made for warehouse’ versus a specialized retailer.”

Dozens of commenters responded to the post, with practically every reply singing the store’s praises for the process.

“Bought two and have had zero problems,” one user wrote. “Sometimes the price is the same online, and that’s when I bought, so I didn’t have to cram into my sedan.”

“I’ve bought at least 8 TVs over the past 15 years at Costco. Never a bad experience,” another said.

Another customer claimed to have purchased so many televisions from the warehouse retailer in recent years that they had lost count of them. “Outstanding experience,” they gushed in their reply. “Warranties have been used on one occasion, and it went smooth as silk. My impression is that the Costco versions will have the higher quality TVs versus the normal ‘Walmart‘ black Friday junk.”

While the quality of the product appears to hold up, it’s not just the fact that you won’t end up with a lemon. On top of reliable warranty coverage, some say the actual act of shopping at Costco can be more pleasant.

“Bought a TV. Put it in the truck. Drive home. Watched TV. Didn’t have to talk to a salesman. 10/10. Would buy another TV from Costco,” one happy customer replied.

“I love not being pressured into buying a more expensive TV than the one I had my eye on,” another wrote.

One shopper gushed about a “great experience” picking up their set from the warehouse retailer, explaining they were able to shop in person to help make their decision before ordering the model they wanted online. They said that this alone saved a lot of time and energy.

“I got a pretty big one, so it was heavy,” they wrote. “Was super happy with the delivery: They unboxed it, put it where I wanted it, made sure it worked, and then took the box and all the other trash from the unboxing away.”

However, there are some limitations.

Still, you might not want to run out to Costco and buy just any model. One shopper pointed out that even though they’ve bought multiple TVs from the warehouse retailer, there are some that are made specifically for the store that they suggest avoiding.

“Most recently bought a 65-inch LG OLED C4 and it’s great. Only downside is streaming services typically are 1080p at best, so when I’m not utilizing a 4k service, I had to optimize my Xbox settings so it didn’t look like it was glitching,” they wrote. Instead, the customer suggests looking into a Mini-LED 4KTV and doing some research (which you can do in person at the store) to ensure you’re making the best decision.

As with any major purchase, one customer says that online reviews can be some of the best ways to help make your choice—which means picking up a bad set isn’t entirely Costco’s fault: “Some companies do produce stinkers when they’re usually good and vice-versa, but as far as the merchant experience goes, Costco is pretty much my go-to for tech outside of specialized shops.”

But while others debated having their purchase dropped off versus renting a larger truck for the day to bring it home yourself, some still cautioned that you might want to take things into your own hands.

“I’d recommend buying in the store if you can, [because] the delivery guys can really [expletive] up a TV,” one shopper cautioned. “The store is better because they get them all in on [a] big pallet, so they aren’t being tossed around a truck all day.”
