Now, we all know not to expect much from airplane food—especially when traveling with budget-friendly airlines. But this one item on the Ryanair in-flight food menu is raising some eyebrows. A woman took a look at the European airline’s menu, only to be horrified upon seeing a “fresh sandwich” that appears to be anything but.
TikToker Taila (@tailalovesconcerts) posted a screenshot featuring the offering. “This is the most insane thing I’ve seen on a flight’s menu. That is not food,” TikToker Taila (@tailalovesconcerts) wrote in the text overlay of her video.
What Is The ‘Fresh Sandwich’ Ryanair Serves?
The sandwich appears to be near-colorless (even though the image of it is not black and white) and overfilled with mystery meat and possibly stuffing of some kind. The beige-ish sandwich costs around $7.67. The Ryanair food catalog notes the fresh sandwiches are only available on certain flights and informs passengers to ask the crew members about availability.
Taila’s video has been viewed half a million times. Several viewers likened the sandwich to the “Nasty Patty” from SpongeBob SquarePants.
“I think they meant to say flesh,” one viewer wrote.
“What is that? a stuffing sandwich on an oatmeal roll?” another said.
“Like fresh from the grave???” a third questioned.
What Is The ‘Nasty Patty’ in ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’?
The “Nasty Patty” is SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs’ gross spin on their infamous Krabby Patty. They serve it to someone they think is pretending to be a health inspector in a season 3 episode as a prank. It is truly one of the darkest episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants due to the fact that SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs think they killed him.
In the episode, the Krusty Krab gets a surprise visit from a health inspector. The health inspector orders one of everything, and SpongeBob happily serves a spectacular assortment of meals. While he’s enjoying the food, Mr. Krabs hears through a news report that an impostor who is scamming restaurants is on the loose.
Believing the inspector is an imposter trying to con them out of free food, the duo use Volcano Sauce, seahorse radish, and toenail clippings to make up a “Nasty Patty.”
The inspector begins to eat the “Nasty Patty,” and a fly goes into his mouth. He chokes, spits out his food, slips on a patty, and then hits his head on the table.
Then, another report announces the imposter has been captured. But the two believe they already killed the real health inspector with the “Nasty Patty” and set out to bury his body. The food inspector eventually regains consciousness several times throughout the episode. But SpongeBob SquarePants fans online agree this episode is one of the darkest in the series.
“This isn’t your average everyday darkness. This is advanced darkness” one Redditor shared.
“Even though it was dark, it was the funniest. My all time favorites,” another said.
While Ryanair hasn’t detailed what exactly is in the “premium fresh sandwich,” we can assume anything is better than the “Nasty Patty” SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs whipped up.
