Why can’t I see who screenshotted my public story on Snapchat?

Snapchat app on iPhone

Snapchat users with public profiles have expressed frustration over the inability to see who screenshots their public stories.

Snapchat’s public profile feature allows users to share content with a wider audience, creating a dedicated page for public posts, much like a traditional social media profile. It’s especially useful for creators looking to grow their following.

A public story, on the other hand, is a collection of snaps posted on this public profile. Unlike regular stories that are visible only to your Snapchat friends, public stories can be viewed by anyone who visits your profile. This helps creators connect with a broader audience, but comes with certain limitations.

Why can’t I see who screenshotted my public stories?

Before an update in 2023, Snapchat allowed users to see who viewed their public stories, even if the viewers weren’t friends or followers. However, the platform no longer provides information about who has screenshotted your public stories unless they are in your friend or follower list.

You can check if someone is following you by scrolling through your friends list to find names and Bitmojis of people who have added you back. These are both your followers and friends.

Another way is to look for their views on your private stories. However, this visibility doesn’t apply to public stories, leaving a privacy gap for users who want to know who’s screenshotting their content.

Snapchat does not notify users when someone outside their network screenshots their public story. The aligns with the platform’s goal of promoting transparency and openness while balancing user privacy.

To safeguard your content from being screenshotted by strangers, try to avoid sharing sensitive or private posts publicly. You can also switch to a private profile or use the ‘Custom’ story setting to share snaps exclusively with trusted friends.
