TIKTOK STAR Fannita has been sharing videos on the platform since 2019.
However, the social media influencer is no stranger to controversy.
Who is TikTok star Fannita?
Fannita Leggett is a popular social media influencer on Instagram and TikTok.
Her following grew after she shared lip-sync videos and comedic skits on the platforms.
She has over 195 thousand followers on Instagram and over two million on TikTok.
Fannita also hosts the Bottoms Up With Fannita podcast.
What did Fannita say about weight loss and fatphobia?
Fannita has openly spoken about her weight loss on social media.
In a TikTok shared on January 8, 2024, Fannita shared her weight loss with her followers.
She stitched an older video of herself saying, “The face is a Black card Amex. Body? That’s on layaway. We’re not going to worry about that.”
The TikTok then transitions to present-day Fannita appearing to have slimmed down.
She says, “Well, it appears that the body is officially off of layaway… The face was always giving, and now the body is too.”
Months later, Fannita addressed the fatphobia and criticism she had received in a video shared on social media.
“Back in the day, when I was fat as s**t, I could say anything to y’all, and y’all would get in the comments and gas it,” she said.
“Now, mind you, if you’ve been following me from the beginning to now, you see my personality has not changed at all.”
What are the fans saying about Fannita?
However, many have criticized Fannita for what they perceive to be “mean girl behavior” after her dramatic weight loss.
The criticism heightened when Fannita voiced her opinions on the pay disparity among Black and white influencers.
On TikTok, Fannita compares herself to popular white influencer Alix Earle, which received a mixed reaction from fans.
One X user reacted to the video by tweeting, “A lot of ppl like Fannita are miserable inside & have so much unresolved trauma when they get skinny, they drop the “funny fat friend” act & let all that pain & misery on the inside come out.”
Another said, “I am so confused by Fannita thinking she is like Alix Earle (who is very much a brand herself) getting more brand deals than her. Alix has media training and is a lifestyle brand and Fannita is usually just fighting with somebody on TikTok.”
However, many have defended Fannita throughout the controversy.
An X user said, “Fannita just called out Alix Earle about the wage gap between Black and white creators. more people should be doing this and exposing these brands. none of this okay.”
Another said, “IDK why ppl are correlating how [Fannita] is acting to her losing weight. When she was bigger & outspoken y’all was eating it up”
