He was known for his show The Johnny Canales Show, which debuted in 1983.
His show was famous for welcoming big Latinx musicians, including the late Selena Quintanilla and La Mafia.
Selena appeared on the show for her 13th birthday and delivered one of her first live performances, paving the way for her career.

His show originally aired on Televisa in Mexico and Univision in America before moving networks in 1996 to Telemundo.

After hosting his own show for many years, he and his wife launched their own show called El Nuevo Show de Johnny y Nora Canales in 2010.

Nora shared the news of Johnny’s death in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 13.
While she didn’t mention his cause of death, she spoke on Johnny’s impact over the years.
“He was more than just a beloved husband, father, TV host, musician, and entertainer; he was a beacon of hope and joy for countless people,” the post read.
“His infectious charisma and dedication to promoting Latino music and culture left a large mark on the world.
“Johnny’s spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the legacy he built.”
Johnny had reportedly struggled with health issues in the years before his death after suffering a stroke in 2008.
