Who is Norme?

Norme is an Irish-Australian content creator who was born on November 5, 2004.

He posts a variety of videos and his brother, Don, and his mother have appeared frequently in the clips he shares on YouTube

Content showing his mum typically involves her reacting to popular horror stories and guessing the names of different characters from games and songs.

One of his most popular video series includes editing famous YouTubers into scarier versions of themselves.

The series has featured creators such as MrBeast, Dhar Mann, Flamingo, and Sketch.

He also has a  Emergency Alert System alarm Rating series which he is well known for.

Overall, his videos have gathered over 361.7 million views, with 413 uploads made by the creator at the time of writing.

Why was the streamer banned from YouTube?

Norme was banned from YouTube because he attempted a feat which was dangerous to his health while on livestream.

A medical expert branded his actions as “utter madness” and ambulances remained on standby by the star’s house.

Dr Deborah Lee, of Dr Fox Online Pharmacy, told The Daily Star: “I think this is utter madness. If you want to kill yourself, this is a miserable, protracted way to do it.

Throughout the livestream, Norme’s brother, Don, was one of the few people to appear on camera, helping to keep him awake by splashing water on his face and forcing him to stand up.

But, as the hours ticked by, Norme’s condition deteriorated, and he began to show signs of severe sleep deprivation, including hallucinations and lapses in consciousness.

What world record was Norme trying to break?

Norme was trying to break the world record for going the most hours with no sleep.

He attempted to stay awake for 12 days and was successful in breaking the record.

Norme didn’t sleep for 265 hours which nearly passes the 12 day mark.

Toward the end of his attempt, Norme said in a August 11 X/Twitter post that YouTube had suspended his sleep deprivation livestream.

“I got banned from YouTube. Literally 12 hours from goal istg [I swear to God] crying rn [right now].”

What has YouTube said about Norme?

YouTube has not released an official statement about the YouTuber’s ban from the platform.

But, in the guidelines, the platform states: “YouTube doesn’t allow content that encourages dangerous or illegal activities that risk serious physical harm or death.”

Under this heading it specifically includes “harmful or dangerous acts, challenges, and pranks,” and “extremely dangerous challenges – challenges that pose an imminent risk of physical injury.”

The livestream of Norme breaking the record has since been removed from YouTube.
