TLC is back with yet another reality dating show with an out-of-this-world twist.
Premiering on January 21, 2024, Love & Translation features three American men trying to find their match in a pool of 12 non-English speaking women hailing from nine different countries.
What is TLC’s Love & Translation about?
Love & Translation is a dating show that attempts to pair couples that don’t speak each other’s languages.
Three American men will try and see if they can find someone they’re compatible with among twelve women who don’t speak English.
The women are given translation devices to understand the host, Sangita Patel, and one another, but they can’t use them when communicating with the male contestants.
“Without a shared language or the use of a translator, this series explores how singles looking for love come together in the attempt to find a connection,” a press release from TLC read.
“In spending time together and focusing on getting to know one another, Love & Translation will showcase raw, genuine moments in a unique dating environment.”
Warner Bros. also noted in a statement that interesting activities are in store for all the contestants.
“With challenges that include utilizing the five senses such as uninterrupted eye gazing and pheromone attraction tests, as well as adrenaline-pumping group date activities, these singles will try to learn about each other without the gift of language,” they said.
“And if the singles aren’t feeling that loving feeling with anyone, they can pack up their bags and look for love elsewhere.”
Who is in the cast?
Fifteen hopefuls are part of the inaugural season of Love & Translation.
The three American men are as follows:
Kahlil, 24, from Texas
Tripp, 30, from California
Dylan, 21, from Florida
In an interview with ET, the trio admitted that they were surprised by the show’s premise.
“I knew we would be meeting foreign women, but I didn’t know they wouldn’t speak any English. That was a surprise for me,” Dylan said.
Kahlil added: “I was like, ‘What did I get myself into? What am I about to say that’s gonna help portray myself to these girls? How are you gonna make a connection?'”
Meanwhile, Tripp said he’s ready for the challenge.
“[If I] show I’m a goofy guy, then maybe that’ll bring some goofiness out of [the women],” he said.
“[It was] uncharted waters for all of us, but I think setting the tone… It was like, ‘OK, let’s relax here and have some fun.”
As for the 12 women, they all come from nine different nations.
