The White Lotus creator, writer and director Mike White has responded to comments made by series composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer. Tapia de Veer gave an interview to the New York Times earlier this month about his percieved disputes with White.

During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Mike White took umbrage with the way that Tapia de Veer, while also taking some personal shots at the composer.

Not only did White claim that Tapia de Veer was trying to make himself look “edgy and dark,” but also that going to the New York Times was “b—- move.”

Tapia de Veer took home an Emmy Award for his work on the score of season one of The White Lotus in 2021 and then returned for seasons two and three.

“I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decides to do some PR campaign about him leaving the show. I don’t think he respected me. He wants people to know that he’s edgy and dark and I’m, I don’t know, like I watch reality TV,” White told Howard Stern.

“We never really even fought. He says we feuded. I don’t think I ever had a fight with him — except for maybe some emails. It was basically me giving him notes. I don’t think he liked to go through the process of getting notes from me, or wanting revisions, because he didn’t respect me. I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way. I was thrown that he would go to The New York Times to shit on me and the show three days before the finale. It was kind of a b—- move.”

Days prior to the premiere of the season three finale, which pulled in record viewership for the series, composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer spoke to the New York Times and said he would not be returning for season 4l

“He described creative disagreements with the show’s creator and director, Mike White, that began during Season 1. Conversations with producers could be ‘hysterical,’ Mr. Tapia de Veer said, and the show’s creative team repeatedly requested music that was more upbeat and less experimental than the work Mr. Tapia de Veer wanted to produce.”

Season four of The White Lotus is already in the works at HBO, with White previously saying he’d be open to making an “all-star” season of the series that features characters from all three seasons of the hit HBO comedy drama series.
