The OG Pirates of the Caribbean cast might never return together for another film, but the stars have countless stories for their fans. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley ruled our hearts in the first three films; while Depp continued his journey in the franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow, the others bid goodbye to their parts until Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The first film in this series was Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. The Atonement star was only seventeen years old and had a terrible experience while filming the blockbuster movie. She played the role of Elizabeth Swann in the franchise. Keep scrolling for more.
Keira Knightley’s character Elizabeth has developed remarkably from Curse of the Pearl to At Worlds’ End. Initially, she was the shielded daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann, played by Jonathan Pryce, and from there, she becomes the Pirate King in the third installment, an absolute bad*ss woman in the world of Pirates. It was a momentous journey for the fans. However, the actress almost died during the 2003 movie. Here’s what happened!
While doing Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Keira Knightley once got caught on a reef and remained stuck there for about an hour. As per Slash Film, Keira was on a rubber speed boat, and it happened during the night. She might have become the Pirate King in the film later, but she had quite an ordeal for the actress, which was nothing else but frightening.
In an interview with Spin in 2003, Keira revealed the incident. She said, “I don’t know how anyone ever dealt with being lost on a desert island … Forty-five minutes awaiting rescue while being stranded waist-deep in water was quite enough.” Her getting stuck paid off, as the movie earned an astronomical $654.26 million worldwide.
Keira Knightley reprised her role as Elizabeth Swann alongside Orlando Bloom‘s Will Turner in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. She and Orlando appeared for a brief cameo.
Will Keira Knightley return to this Disney franchise?
The chances of Keira returning as Elizabeth in this franchise are entirely negative. She indicated that earlier in an interview. To top that, recently, the franchise’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, revealed that they will go ahead with the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot, possibly meaning that Johnny Depp will not be coming back as Jack Sparrow. Disney dropped him because of his domestic disputes and court cases against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
