What is Life on Film? Viral Disposable Camera Guy explained

With millions of followers across TikTok and Instagram, Life on Film has amassed a gigantic following on both platforms for the simple act of encouraging strangers to enjoy photography.

Every one of Life on Film’s videos begins with the same pitch: Approach strangers at airports and other public hotspots to hand out disposable cameras.

If the recipient agrees to fill the camera with photos of their everyday lives, they’re asked to return it to sender, where the images are transformed into a show reel snapshot of the subject’s life.

While most of the channel’s videos feature members of the public, Life on Film has also branched out into the celebrity world. Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, and Ice Spice have featured previously, with a certain YouTube icon now joining those ranks.

Life on Film catches MrBeast

On May 10, 2025, the channel released another disposable camera video, this time featuring MrBeast. It’s not clear when the original handover happened, but the TikTok star’s montage coincided with Jimmy’s ‘I Survived 100 Hours in an Ancient Temple‘ video filmed in Mexico and uploaded on the same day.

How successful are Life on Film’s videos?

Life on Film’s MrBeast video recorded over 900k plays in less than 24 hours of being uploaded on May 10. The channel’s celebrity-focused clips often record the highest engagement numbers.

On October 28, 2024, then-US President Joe Biden took snaps of his own daily life, the end result wracking up over 13 million plays.

As of May 11, 2025, the channel’s most-watched video features a tourist visiting the French Alps, which has garnered over 36 million plays since being uploaded to TikTok on October 2, 2025.

Who owns Life on Film?

It’s not known if Life on Film is owned by a single individual or a collective, although the latter is most likely. Some videos, including the one featuring Joe Biden, are accompanied by a sign-off from named individuals.

“One year ago, we had the idea to give disposable cameras to strangers and bring their photos to life in a video. Thank you to everyone who has helped us get here. We’ve come a long way. — Christian, Grant, & Griffin,” reads the description.

Life on Film doesn’t appear to have any set-in-stone upload schedule, so, if you’re interested in seeing what famous face the channel gets hold of next, you’ll have to keep an eye on their TikTok channel.
