This woman chose a beach vacation over a cruise. Here’s why that may have been the wrong choice.
When you go on vacation, you at least expect your accommodation to be safe and clean.
Sure, they might have extra amenities that make the stay even better, like a gym or pool. But if you’re a budget traveler, you’re likely happy with solid basics.
But a popular hotel/resort, which has about 2,650 reviews, left these travelers confused about how a hotel could be so bad.
Hotel Gone Wrong
In a viral video with more than 765,000 views, Reanna (@reannaslone) says that she and her family hadn’t been to Myrtle Beach in a long time since becoming cruise ship converts.
But this summer, they deviated from the usual and booked a week at the Sandcastle Oceanfront Resort South Beach, a 2-star hotel in South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach, which ranges from $63 to $111 a night.
“The website and reviews looked great! When we arrived…..that was a different story!” Reanna said in the caption.
To be clear, the hotel has an overall 3.4 rating on Google (you be the judge of whether that’s an acceptable rating). The reviews are mixed. And several recent ones called out the rude service and lack of cleanliness.
As shown in the video, the room Reanna booked was dilapidated with a rusting oven, broken cabinets, a grimy bathroom, stains on the bedsheets, a closed pool, and a dry hot tub.
“I felt like we would have caught something if we stayed there!” Reanna said.
On top of the place being not just poorly maintained but almost abandoned-looking, Reanna says the staff was rude and there were fewer than a dozen people working the property.
Reanna says they had to fight to get a refund and ended up at another, much nicer, resort.
“Do yourself a favor and do not book this hotel!” Reanna said in the caption.
What Is A 2-Star Hotel?
A 2-star hotel is a budget-friendly hotel option that offers basic accommodations, like a room with a private bathroom, basic furnishings like a TV and bed, housekeeping, and free or low-cost Wi-Fi. They’re the kind of places you crash at, not Instagram.
These hotels focus on affordability over luxury or extra amenities.
You likely won’t find things like room service, a gym, or upscale decor. These hotels are best for travelers who just need a clean, safe place to sleep and don’t mind skipping extras like a spa, pool, or on-site restaurant.
A few popular 2-star hotels (or motels, as many people call them) are Motel 6, Super 8, and Sleep Inn.
Commenters React
“This place is giving bed bugs hell noooo,” a top comment read.
“It’s giving this hotel is scheduled to be closed PERMANENTLY,” a person said.
“Never stay in Myrtle Beach always stay in North Myrtle Beach or Surfside,” another suggested.
