GLOBAL superstar Megan Thee Stallion has made it big in the music industry but credits her amazing success down to her late parents.
The Grammy Award winner lost both of her parents when she was young but says they still managed to play a pivotal role in her career – here’s all we know about her parents Holly and Joseph.
What happened to Megan Thee Stallion’s mother, Holly Thomas?
Megan – who has just announced her Hot Girl Summer Tour – has had to face some turbulent times since becoming a global superstar.
On March 22, 2019, her mother Holly Thomas lost her battle with brain cancer at just 47.
Megan, 29, announced the tragic news via Instagram saying: “The best mom in the whole world.
“The strongest woman on the planet. I can’t even put complete sentences together rn RIP mama.”
That same month, Holly’s death coincided with her grandmother’s passing.
Megan told her fans: “This year, I lost my mom and my grandmother in the same month.
“Although all these positive things have been happening to me, and I’ve been trying to do good, been trying to keep a smile on my face, stay strong, to stay happy for me and my other grandmother and the rest of my family… it’s pretty hard.
“I just wanted to spread some positivity and tell ya’ll to stay positive, stay kind through your hard times because the pain doesn’t last forever.”
Megan often hails her late mother as the main reason why she became an artist calling her one of the biggest influences in her career.
“I knew I wanted to be a rapper when I was, like, five,” the Hissed hitmaker told Essence.
“My mom was a rapper. I would go to the studio with her and that definitely showed me I can do this. I want to do this.”
What happened to Megan’s father, Joseph Pete?
Joseph Pete died when Megan was just 15 years old.
The cause of his death is unknown publicly.
But the famous singer did tell Marie Claire: “My dad was definitely my best friend.
“But for the first eight years of my life, he was in jail. When he got out, we were together every day
“I saw how he treated my mom and I saw how my dad treated me.
“I have so many strong positive influences. I’m not going to lower my standards.”
Megan credits her “hustler” father for her strong beliefs and says he taught her how to always know her worth.
What is the Pete and Thomas Foundation?
To mark her 27th birthday on February 15, 2022, Megan launched a non-profit organisation called the Pete and Thomas Foundation.
The community outreach program helps worse off families with education, housing, health and wellness needs.
It is named in honour of her parents.
The company operates in several locations across the US including Houston, New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
In a press release about the NPO, she said: “Launching the Pete and Thomas Foundation is easily one of the most significant endeavors that I’ll ever be part of in my career.
“My family raised me to help others and give back, so I’m incredibly proud to be in a position to accomplish that goal.
“I have a responsibility to use my platform to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who may not have access to resources and support services.”
