Frontier Foundry and developer Petroglyph Games have shared the announcement trailer for The Great War: Western Front, an authentic World War I real-time strategy (RTS) game, which will launch on PC in 2023. Gameplay will occur from the vantage points of both Theater Commander and Field Commander, for turn-based grand strategy and real-time battles respectively, and you can play as the Allied Nations or the Central Powers. You will use your strategic abilities to make choices that “either relive or redefine one of the most fundamental conflicts in modern history.”
Strikingly, gameplay will occur across a living, constantly changing world, where battlefields will retain the scars from previous battles and deteriorate accordingly, and weather will affect combat conditions as well. Here is additional information about The Great War: Western Front, in addition to its announcement trailer from Frontier Foundry and Petroglyph:
The Great War: Western Front features authentic trench warfare in detail never-before-seen within the RTS genre. Each vantage point provides its own unique mechanics with which to gain the advantage over the opposition, whether attacking or defending. Players must consider strategy at every level, carefully allocating resources and choosing which locations to fortify in a war won by inches. Researching new technologies, from poisonous gas to state-of-the-art tanks, will also provide the upper hand that could turn the tide of the war.
Watch out for more details on The Great War ahead of its launch on PC in 2023. Meanwhile, Frontier Foundry has been busy, as it also announced planet survival sim Stranded: Alien Dawn with Haemimont Games yesterday.
