Wendy’s Will Reportedly Sell The Krabby Patty From ‘SpongeBob’

I can’t imagine there are many people who’ve watched SpongeBob SquarePants without fantasizing about taking a bite out of the mythical Krabby Patty, and it sounds like Wendy’s is gearing up to make that dream a reality in the not-so-distant future.

There are a number of movies and television shows that have featured fictional food designed to get the mouths of viewers watering; I know I’m far from the only person who dreams about getting to taste one of Willy Wonka’s confectionary creations or take a bite of the eponymous dish in Ratatouille.

However, as someone who was a member of the target demographic of SpongeBob SquarePants when the show debuted on Nickelodeon in 1999, there isn’t a single one I want to try more than the signature item the title character is tasked with cooking up at the Krusty Krab: the Krabby Patty.

At first glance, the Krabby Patty seems like a pretty standard burger. SpongeBob never reveals the secret recipe that drove Plankton to the brink of insanity, but we do know it features an apparently meatless patty along with the ketchup, mustard, pickles, onion, lettuce, cheese, and tomato (in that specific albeit unconventional order) sandwiched between a sesame seed bun.

However, when you consider the Krabby Patty is delicious to the point where Squidward once locked himself in a vault and devoured them until he literally exploded, it’s hard not to be intrigued by an item that sadly doesn’t exist in real life—at least until now.

Based on an image that surfaced on Reddit earlier this week, a real-life version of the Krabby Patty is slated to make its debut at Wendy’s toward the start of October, as the fast food chain has apparently partnered with Paramount (Nickelodeon’s parent company) for a promotion commemorating the 25th anniversary of the first season of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Wendy’s is seemingly taking a couple of liberties with the recipe that’s considered canon in the SpongeBob universe, as it will feature a meat patty along with a “secret Krabby Patty sauce” (I’m also going to assume the cheese will go directly on top of the burger).

That’s not the only new item in the works, as it appears a pineapple Frosty paying tribute to the yellow fry cook’s home will also be available for a limited time.

I have a hard time imagining the final product will be able to live up to expectations that I’ve had for decades, but that’s not going to stop me from trying it as soon as I can.
