Jenna Ortega is back home. The actress returns for a second season of “Wednesday,” premiering over the summer on Netflix. To get fans excited and provide them with a taste of what’s to come, Netflix has shared some first images of the series.
New photos bring viewers back to Nevermore Academy and the Addams family home, promising some more of Wednesday but also of the characters that populate her world.
The images show plenty of the Addams Family, including characters we’ve previously encountered, like Wednesday’s parents, Gomez and Morticia, played by Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), Wednesday’s brother, who’s beginning his first year at Nevermore Academy.
The series is also exploring more of the Addams Family roster of characters. Fred Armisen back as Uncle Fester, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, while Joanna Lumley has joined the cast as Hester Frump.
Frump plays Morticia’s mother and is described as having a complicated relationship with her daughter. She’s also one of Wednesday’s biggest allies.
“That Wednesday-Hester relationship is unique; you see a twinkle in both their eyes when they’re together on-screen. I think everyone is going to fall in love with Hester,” said Miles Millar, one of the series’ creators.
Ortega seems thrilled to return to the character of Wednesday, with her having a more active role in the series as she’s credited as one of the show’s producers.
“Wednesday Addams is one of the coolest characters of all time, so to have gotten the opportunity to play her once was incredible, and then to be able to slip into the costume and tone again, it’s so much fun,” she said.
“She runs circles around everyone that she has a conversation with, so to play someone who’s so much more intelligent than you will ever be, it’s quite funny and strange and enjoyable.”
The second season of “Wednesday” premieres its first half on August 6th. It’ll premiere the season’s second half on September 3rd.
