Over the weekend, the Warren Haynes Band continued their Summer European Tour with four further performances in their ten-stop race across the continent. Following an electrifying kickoff show from London’s Islington Assembly Hall, the storied Southern rock quintet helmed by the Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule frontman reached a new high point in the series with their July 6 staging at Burg Clam, a 12th-century castle turned live music venue in Sperken, Austria. As the undercard for a bill helmed by Joe Bonamassa, Haynes and his group tore through a stacked seven-track set before the bandleader sat in during the headline set.
On Sunday, following earlier sets from Deep Purple’s Simon McBride and more, the Warren Haynes Band stepped into the spotlight with the soulful blues stomp of “Man in Motion,” drawn from the bandleader’s 2018 album of the same name. Haynes led his group of Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott, longtime drummer Terence Higgins, keyboardist Matt Slocum and saxophonist Greg Osby back to his roots with “Fire in the Kitchen,” the first track from his 1993 solo debut Tales of Ordinary Madness, then shifted to Gov’t Mule’s catalog with “Banks of the Deep End.” After powerful treatments of the Allman Brothers Band standouts “Instrumental Illness” and “Dreams” and his solo essential “Invisible,” the Warren Haynes Band wrapped up their set with their staple show closer “Soulshine.”
After a brief intermission, the esteemed blues-rock guitarist Bonamassa took the stage with his expansive ensemble to set off the last leg of his “Tour to End All Tours” European series. Bonamassa started his set with the solo originals “Hope You Realize It (Goodbye Again)” and “Dust Bowl” before launching into a string of electric blues covers like Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Twenty-Four Hour Blues” and Guitar Slim’s “Well, I Done Got Over It.” In the middle of this run of classics, Bonamassa welcomed Haynes back to the stage for a treatment of Freddie King’s “Pack It Up” complete with dueling guitar solos, then closed out his performance with his long-running cover of Led Zeppelin’s “How Many More Times.”
Warren Haynes Band will return to the stage tonight for a performance at Paris’ La Cigale. The group will continue with four further stops on their European tour through July 13. Find tickets and more information on Haynes’ full 2025 live itinerary here.
