A streamer in China is sparking backlash after revealing how much money she makes per day, even when she’s doing literally “nothing.”
Content creators are no strangers to making big money while not even interacting with their viewers, but one streamer is facing calls for her to be banned after bragging about her income.
Chinese influencer Gu Xixi is one of the most controversial creators on Douyin, having been suspended on multiple occasions for her “vulgar” content such as showing off her body on stream.
That hasn’t stopped her viewership, however, with Xixi making some serious coin thanks to her Douyin shop and she claims she doesn’t even have to do anything to get rich.
Chinese streamer reveals “hard-earned money” from just lying in bed
According to the South China Morning Post, from February 8-16, Xixi made $1.4M USD on Douyin and another $1.2M on another unnamed platform. And that’s when she actually tries to make money.
“Today, I spent the entire day lying in bed, did nothing, and still made 1.16 million yuan in sales on my Douyin shop, with an estimated commission of 303,200 yuan ($42,000 USD),” she bragged.
“The more you cannot stand seeing me doing well, and the more you criticize me, the more I make. It is not about earning hundreds of thousands yuan per month, it is about earning hundreds of thousands of yuan per day! Understand?” the streamer mocked.
Gu Xixi has made millions on Chinese social media.
Xixi later clarified that her comments were intended to provoke haters, adding that her earnings were “hard-earned.”
“We did not steal, we did not rob. All the money we make is hard-earned. When I said I did nothing all day, it was meant to provoke people. Do you think I can really do nothing all day? I said it just to irritate those haters,” she blasted.
Users on the Chinese social media app are playing right into her hands, rallying against Xixi’s claims that her money is “hard-earned” while others have been demanding she be permanently banned.
“Please ban her account, so she does not have to ‘work so hard!’” one exclaimed.
She’s hardly the first streamer to make a fortune just lying in bed. Twitch star Amouranth’s sleeping broadcasts have earned her thousands with viewers giving big buckets to the popular model.
