King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have visited the ether of live concerts past and partnered with Relix to present Flame Throwers: Volume One, the first installment of forthcoming tour compilations, available exclusively on Relix Marketplace. The bootleg vinyl series culls the best moments from the band’s summer 2024 East Coast/Midwest run, rendered in HiFi for the most pristine listening experience.
Flame Throwers pulls in standout performances from King Gizzard, including the band’s August 15, 2024 delivery of “Dripping Tap,” played at the Anthem in Washington, D.C., “Hypertension” from Minneapolis on September 3, and a classic jam sequencing of “Work This Time > Iron Lung,” recorded on August 25, in Newport, Ky.
Curated by Justin Krim, the first-ever “Bootleggers” compilation album provides a rare pause in studio releases. It allows the listener to relish King Gizzard’s unscripted live force, thanks in part to Jesse Lauter, who mixed and mastered the arrival using the immersive lucidity of studio-grade sound.
The Flame Throwers set is offered in 3-LP format, featuring original cover and poster art by Madalyn Stefanak (TAG). Pressed by Good Neighbor, the set was manufactured at an eco-friendly and sustainable vinyl plant, a goodwill approach to production.
“King Gizzard is at the forefront of everything we at Relix believe in for live music,” Lauter underscored. “They are one of the most exciting live bands touring right now, and they don’t get to play in the US very often. With this compilation, we hope it will be a series highlighting some amazing moments cherry-picked from their shows.”
Expanding on the range of the set, Lauter continues, “Their shows are diverse, and on any given night, they’ll go from psychedelic jams to electronic dance parties and heavy metal. Justin Krim, who helps with the band’s archive, has compiled what we think is an incredible set for King Gizzard fans and beginners alike to experience what a King Gizzard concert is all about.”
Touching on the continuation of the series, Lauter adds, “We are looking forward to doing more of these compilations in the same way that Phish fans expect to receive live shows or Deadheads with Dick’s Picks.”
