If you love historical dramas featuring incredible costumes and sets, as well as lots of action, delightful accents, and impossibly attractive people, today is a good day. And if you also loved the original Vikings series then today is a bloody great day. Netflix has released the first full trailer for the upcoming spinoff series Vikings: Valhalla. The show takes place 100 years after the original series ended. It features some legendary figures fighting a ruthless war against a dangerous enemy. Clearly a century wasn’t enough time to make the world any safer. Which is for the best. Because it still looks as entertaining as ever.
Vikings bid farewell with its season six finale on the History Channel in December 2020. Now Netflix is picking up its axe with a new story set 100 years later. With a tale based on some well-known names from history. Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:
Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). As tensions between the Vikings and the English royals reach a bloody breaking point and as the Vikings themselves clash over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs, these three Vikings begin an epic journey that will take them across oceans and through battlefields, from Kattegat to England and beyond, as they fight for survival and glory.
Jeb Stuart serves as showrunner and executive producer. The show also stars: Bradley Freegard (King Canute), Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Olaf Haraldsson), Caroline Henderson (Jarl Haakon), Laura Berlin (Emma of Normandy), David Oakes (Earl of Godwin), Louis Davison (Prince Edmund), Bosco Hogan (King Aethelred II), Asbjørn Krogh Nissen (Jarl Kåre), Pollyanna McIntosh (Aelfgifu of Northampton), and Soren Pilmark (King Sweyn Forkbeard).
Vikings: Valhalla‘s eight-episode first season premieres February 25. That will be the best day of the year for fans of the franchise.
