It’s been a little over a year since we bade the History channel’s Vikings farewell. The beloved Viking warrior series followed the exploits of the legendary Norse king Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. But while their journeys are at an end, there are still many more Viking stories to tell. And luckily, the crew behind Vikings is back and ready for more. This time, in a series for Netflix. Vikings: Valhalla takes place a few years after its predecessor series, towards the end of the Viking Age. And in the first teaser, it looks like we’re in for a major battle between the Vikings and the English.
Here’s the full synopsis from Netflix:
Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). As tensions between the Vikings and the English royals reach a bloody breaking point and as the Vikings themselves clash over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs, these three Vikings begin an epic journey that will take them across oceans and through battlefields, from Kattegat to England and beyond, as they fight for survival and glory.
Yep, that Leif Eriksson is making his Netflix debut in the upcoming series.
In addition to Corlett, Eriksdotter, and Suter, the series boasts an expansive ensemble cast. Bradley Freegard Jóhannes, Haukur Jóhannesson, Caroline Henderson, Laura Berlin, David Oakes, Louis Davison, Bosco Hogan, Asbjørn Krogh Nissen, Pollyanna McIntosh, and Soren Pilmark all feature in the show.
Jeb Stuart serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Morgan O’Sullivan, Michael Hirst, Sheila Hockin, Steve Stark, James Flynn, John Weber, Sherry Marsh and Alan Gasmer, Paul Buccieri are executive producing.
Vikings: Valhalla season one, which consists of eight episodes, debuts on February 25, 2022.
