All 80 people aboard the plane that ended up flipped over on a runway in Toronto on Monday managed to survive the harrowing ordeal. A number of them were treated for largely minor injuries, and it’s pretty amazing things didn’t turn out much, much worse after watching the video of the fateful moment things went awry during landing.

The numbers have repeatedly shown air travel is statistically the safest form of transportation, but when you consider more than 35 million commercial flights take to the skies around the world each year, there are inevitably going to be at least a few incidents where things don’t go according to plan.

It goes without saying that was the case with Delta Air Lines Flight 4819, which departed from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport on Monday afternoon en route to  Toronto Pearson International Airport, where it touched down at 4:15 P.M. before things took a terrifying turn.

The internet was quickly filled with footage of the Bombardier CRJ900-LR flipped over on the tarmac, including a video that was taken by a passenger while they were hanging upside down and another courtesy of someone who pulled out their phone to document the evacuation from the inside.

The 76 passengers and four crew members manning the flight were all able to escape without any life-threatening injuries (at least 18 people were hospitalized for treatment, and two were listed in critical condition but are expected to recover).

The official cause of the crash that led to both of its wings snapping off is still unclear, but we got a bit more insight into what transpired courtesy of the bystander who was filming the plane as it approached the runway and chronicled the moment it burst into flames and promptly turned over after its right wing clipped the ground.

I don’t like to throw the word “miracle” around too much, but I think it applies to this situation when you realize everyone was able to survive that.
