During his interview with famed Canadian journalist Nardwuar (the Human Serviette), Academy Award-nominated actor Timothee Chalamet said that he was knighted by rapper Lil B while he was in college, and that it helped launch his career. Video of Chalamet being knighted by the I’m Gay (I’m Happy) rapper has now been uncovered.

Timothee Chalamet has been on a heater during his recent press tour for his Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and his interview with Nardwuar was no different. Chalamet’s quotes about his experience with Lil B went particularly viral, as he explained that his career truly took off after being knighted by the “Based God.”

“I met him at NYU. I had $50 from a commercial I did, I bribed a kid to give me his ticket. I was in there alone, you know, front row to the right. I raised my hand, I got called on by him, [and] told him I was going to ask out a crush. He invited me on stage and he knighted me. And honestly, he said, ‘That boy’s hands been blessed,’ and from there, my acting career took off. Thank you, BasedGod. I was struggling before that, basically just done Royal Pains, and, you know, I was nominated for an Oscar by the time I was 22,” Chalamet explained.

Not that anyone thought Chalamet was lying, video of the moment of his knighting has emerged, which shows the college-aged Timmy eagerly hopping on stage to get blessed by the Based God.

The 28-year-old Dune star then went on to explain why he was such a Lil B fan.

“Lil B is a hugely formative artist in my life and career. He dropped an album called I’m Gay and the rollout was very ambiguous about his sexuality or the meaning of the album. I was just inspired from the sense that, ‘Wow this guy is doing whatever the f— he wants. It was just so cool to me that he had this genre of hip-hop that he was just all over the place.”

Chalamet’s A Complete Unknown  press tour has been a massive win for the young star as he’s displayed elements of his personality that people perhaps weren’t aware of previously.

A Complete Unknown, which sees Chalamet star as the legendary Bob Dylan, is now playing in theaters. All signs point to Chalamet being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for the second time in his career, with his performance in A Complete Unknown seemingly positioning him as the favorite, too.
