EXCLUSIVE: Vertical has acquired North American rights to Home Sweet Home: Rebirth, the live-action adaptation of the video game from directors Alexander Kiesl and Steffen Hacker.
Starring Michele Morrone (365 Days), William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia saga), Thai-Norwegian actress Yaya Urassaya Sperbund (Brother of the Year), and K-Pop/K-Drama star Alexander Lee (Moorin School: Saga of the Brave), the film is set for release this April. Below is a first look image.
Home Sweet Home Rebirth follows Jake (Moseley), a cop thrust into an alternate realm called “The Hindrance” during a deadly mall shooting. With the help of a mysterious Novice Monk (Lee), Jake must race the clock to save his wife, Prang (Sperbund), and stop an evil occultist, Mek (Morrone), from opening the Gates of Hell.
The film is based on the survival thriller video game Home Sweet Home by Thai gaming company YGGDrazil, which has sold more than one million units worldwide and has become a breakout on YouTube and Twitch, with streamers raking in more than 370 million views of gameplay across both platforms.
The North America deal was negotiated between Rachel White, Vertical’s Manager of Acquisitions & Sales, and Daniel Diamond of Diamond Media, which is handling sales.
The film has also been licensed to UK (Signature Entertainment), Germany (Splendid Film), Middle East (ECS), CIS (Area Media), Taiwan (Vie Vision), Philippines (Pioneer), Indonesia (Prima Cinema), and India (Picture Works).
The film was produced by Dean Altit under his Altit Media Group banner, and Pakin Maliwan, under Thailand-based Film Frame Productions. Tanat Juwiwat and Saroot Tubloy of YGGDrazil, Richard Alan Reid, Kia Jam, and Diamond Media executive-produced. Co-directors Kiesl and Hacker’s German visual effects house Unexpected GmbH provided over 600 shots for the film.
“I am incredibly excited to partner with Vertical for the North American release of Home Sweet Home: Rebirth. Their commitment to delivering compelling narratives aligns perfectly with our vision for this film,” stated producer Dean Altit.
“Home Sweet Home: Rebirth is a gripping, visual feast. We’re looking forward to introducing this international action-thriller to North American audiences,” added White.
