Max has revealed the official trailer for its new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 book, Salem’s Lot.
The story follows Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman), a writer who returns to his hometown of Salem’s Lot in Maine to complete his novel, only to find that the town has been cursed with vampires. The trailer shows various residents of Salem’s Lot attempting to thwart attacks from vampires, end the mysterious curse, and make it out alive. It’s also soundtracked to an eerie rendition of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Sundown,” serving as a reminder of the vampires’ nighttime terrors. Watch the trailer below.
Directed and written by Gary Dauberman (known for his work helming The Conjuring universe), the new film is the first feature adaptation of King’s original novel. Previously, Salem’s Lot was adapted into a two-part miniseries in 1979 as well as in 2004. The new movie has been in the works for over four years, with Dauberman being revealed as the film’s director in April 2020. Now, Salem’s Lot will arrive exclusively on Max on October 3rd, coming just in time for Halloween.
The film’s official logline reads “Author Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.” In addition to Pullman appearing as Mears, Salem’s Lot also stars Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, Makenzie Leigh, Spencer Treat Clark, Pilou Asbæk, and John Benjamin Hickey.
Max isn’t just dipping into the Stephen King well for Salem’s Lot — they’re also set to release a new It prequel titled Welcome to Derry, slated for release in 2025.
