Users call for Discord to revert UI changes after massive desktop update

Users are calling for Discord to revert its UI changes after the company released a massive desktop update.

On Tuesday, March 25, Discord released the first massive update to its desktop app in years, giving users many new features and a completely new look.

Its biggest features include a completely new set of themes and scaling options, allowing you to completely customize how you want your chat to look while using the app.

Discord users make it clear they don’t like change

After it rolled out to everyone, many expressed distaste for the update, with some even calling for Discord to revert the changes completely.

Some called the update “distressing,” while others claimed it was the ‘worst UI change ever.’

One user asked: “What happened to Discord? This is the worst UI change I have ever seen by far. Oh my god.”

Many pointed out specific areas of the update that they disliked, with one user sharing a screenshot of the message box being out of line with the area that shows your username.

“Hey Discord, help me understand what y’all thought you were doing with this UI change… I just wanna talk, I swear,” they said.

Another user added: “The new Discord UI is like the worst thing just got the fact that everything is either too small or too big.”

Many called for Discord to revert the UI change entirely, while some users said Discord should offer an option to switch between the new and old designs.

One user commented: “Discord, please revert the UI. Please, I beg you, Discord.”

“New Discord UI is so ass now like wtf is this? Thoughts on giving us the option between this and the legacy UI?” another said.

Not everybody hates the update

Despite the mass complaints on social media, many others have shared their love for the new update and all of the new features Discord added with the change.

“Honestly, from the way I’m looking at it. It ain’t that half bad,” one user commented.

Another said in a post: “I love Discord’s new user interface. The only downside I have with this is how there is too much unnecessary space that could have been used for the server list. Other than that, it looks awesome.”

This isn’t the first time Discord has sparked backlash over a UI change, as the massive mobile update back in 2023 caused users to go as far as canceling their Nitro subscriptions.

Discord has continued to update and improve the mobile app design and performance since then, directly addressing users’ complaints in the process, so it’s likely we’ll see updates made to the desktop app in the coming weeks.
