Sara Lund, the drummer with post-hardcore greats Unwound, is crowdfunding medical expenses and living costs after a breast cancer diagnosis. GoFundMe entries written by Lund and Janet Weiss explain that Lund has undergone a lumpectomy and radiation therapy, and will soon begin endocrine therapy. Money raised will cover “medical bills and wellness expenses outside of insurance,” as well as living and working costs. The $25,000 target has already been surpassed, but you can contribute more here. “Let’s show Sara we wouldn’t dream of letting her go this alone,” Weiss wrote.
Unwound are about to embark on a West Coast tour before heading to Australia, with Lund set to play all the shows. In her entry on the GoFundMe page, she wrote that, once the diagnosis sunk in, “I realized I was never really afraid of dying from this. My main concern was how it would affect my ability to play drums and how soon I could get back behind the kit and how the surgery and recovery would interfere with the Unwound tours we had booked for this year.” She added, “Spending the bulk of this year as a cancer patient, I have been holding tight to the dream that I would be able to play these upcoming shows and it was a huge morale boost once I finally knew I would make it.”
