Morgan Wallen got paid to perform two different songs on Saturday Night Live. He did exactly that and fulfilled his contractual obligation.

However, the country music artist was reportedly unwilling to go above and beyond. Fair enough!

Wallen sparked yet another controversy on Saturday night by abruptly walking off of the stage as soon as the closing credits started to roll on the screen. The 31-year-old did not stick around to shake hands with the cast and/or crew and immediately doubled down on his lack of desire to be in New York City with a post on Instagram that has since become a meme.

Kenan Thompson was confused by the prompt exit and the subsequent post on social media. The longest-tenured cast member at SNL was not alone. The fringe lunatics were outraged by his behavior. Some people wondered why Morgan Wallen chose to be so abrasive when he has a history of bad PR. Most everyone else could not care less. And yet here we are talking about it!

According to TMZ, the whole thing was much ado about nothing.

A source close to Morgan says his walking off stage was an oopsie moment and he meant nothing by it.

We’re told he entered and exited the studio the same way he did Saturday night during rehearsal and camera blocking all week leading up to the live show … so he routinely headed that way when he thought it was time to go.

He left the stage when the show was over. He did the same thing during dress rehearsal. There is nothing more to it. I don’t blame him for doing his job and leaving when his job was over.

Regardless whether that account of what happened is true or not, his Instagram post certainly did not help with the optics. Nor does the latest report about Wallen’s attitude throughout the week.

Sara Nathan and Leah Bitsky of Page Six were told that he was “not super friendly” on set. Although I do not doubt what they heard, I would imagine that people behind the scenes (and maybe in the cast) read way too far into his subdued demeanor. Believe it or not, when not out partying with his boys, he’s a fairly quiet guy who keeps to himself.

And here’s the kicker —

SNL reportedly asked Morgan Wallen if he wanted to participate in one of the show’s pre-taped sketches. They were hopeful that he would but he did not. They replaced him with Joe Jonas instead.

Wallen had every right to decline. Nobody is blaming him for doing so but it is just another added wrinkle to this whole saga. He was not super friendly, didn’t want to participate in anything except for what he was contractually obligated to do and left as soon as possible to get back to God’s country.

People who already hate Morgan Wallen are going to hate him even more because of this sequence of events in New York last week. People who don’t care about something so trivial will continue to not care.

Hopefully this is the end of it, but it would be very funny if the biggest star in country music decided to run it back at SNL in the future and did it exactly the same way. At this point, what is there to lose? The narrative is set and people are going to choose what they want to believe anyway!
