Veteran rock band U2 have announced a 2023 residency which is slated to take place at the new MSG Sphere at the Venetian in Las Vegas. News of the impending series of shows was dropped in commercial form during Super Bowl 57. Watch below.
The concerts, dubbed U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere, were teased toward the end of yesterday’s football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, followed by a press release confirming the shows.
In the statement issued by the Irish rockers, they noted: “[The concerts] will see the world’s biggest rock band launch the world’s most exciting all-new-state-of-the-art venue, MSG Sphere at the Venetian, in Las Vegas this fall.”
The press release also confirmed the absence of drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who had to undergo surgery earlier this year. They also shared that Bram van den Berg will fill Mullen’s role during his truancy.
“It’s going to take all we’ve got to approach the Sphere without our bandmate in the drum seat, but Larry has joined us in welcoming Bam van den Berg, who is a force in his own right,” added his bandmates.
The upcoming performances will see the band play at the newly constructed 17,500-seat venue, which boasts 500,000 plus square feet of LED screens. U2’s residency will mainly focus on material from 1991’s top-chart LP, Achtung Baby.
