Olivia Rodrigo and Tyler Childers joined forces for the most unexpected musical collaboration of the year on Wednesday night and blew the roof off of Rupp Arena. The home of Kentucky Wildcats basketball went bonkers for the local legend.
It ended up being one of the coolest duets in a very long time!
Rodrigo, who got her start on Disney Channel, boasts more than 37 million followers on Instagram. She is one of the biggest stars in the world with multiple No. 1 hits before the age of 21. Although her reach extends far beyond her target demographic by nature of the radio, most of her fans are young girls and women between the age of nine and 25.
Childers’ audience looks a little bit different. Although his audience is rather diverse, he largely caters to a more alt-country crowd with fans ranging anywhere from ages 18 to 70. With that being said, you won’t find as many bedazzled jeans or oversized belt buckles at one of his concerts compared to other artists of his genre, like Luke Combs or even Kenny Chesney.
Despite their differences, Childers and Rodrigo teamed up in Lexington. The former is from the Bluegrass State and takes great pride in where he grew up so the people of Kentucky love him right back! The (largely young female) crowd screamed at the top of their lungs when the latter brought him out as a surprise guest.
Not only did Rodrigo and Childers’ voices compliment each other surprisingly well, they picked a song that everybody in the crowd would know. ‘All Your’n’ blew up on TikTok so everybody who didn’t know the words from simply being a fan of the song knew the words from social media.
This type of crossover event is so much fun. Nobody expected Olivia Rodrigo to bring out Tyler Childers, of all people, and it became a really magical moment in music!
