Two-Part Billy Joel Documentary Coming to HBO This Summer

HBO has announced a new documentary centered on Billy Joel, arriving this summer. Directed by Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin, Billy Joel: And So It Goes will premiere on HBO before becoming available to stream on Max.

The two-part documentary is described as “an expansive portrait of the life and music” of the iconic songwriter and pianist, and is set to explore the “love, loss, and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting.” With Tom Hanks listed as an executive producer, Billy Joel: And So It Goes teases “unprecedented access to never-before-seen performances, home movies, and personal photographs, along with extensive, in-depth one-on-one interviews.”

“I believe this two-part film is both a revelation and a surprise,” shared Lacy, who also led the documentary Jane Fonda in Five Acts. “I was drawn to his story as someone who knew little at the outset, and was astounded at how autobiographical his songs are and how complex his story is.”

Shortly after announcing a 2025 tour, Joel postponed several scheduled dates, citing a recent surgery and the subsequent recovery. The tour, featuring Stevie Nicks, Sting, and Rod Stewart as special guests, is now set to kick off in July; grab tickets here.
