Don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answer to.
That’s the hard-learned life lesson that beloved Sesame Street character Elmo had to learn from Twitter users on Monday.
The lesson came after the beloved character did what all good friends should do and checked in on their fellow tweeters.
Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?

“Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing,” Elmo asked, seemingly innocuously enough.
But what was lurking just under the surface was a sad, dark truth.
Every was not doing great. And they were quick to let Elmo know about it.
Elmo each day the abyss we stare into grows a unique horror. one that was previously unfathomable in nature. our inevitable doom which once accelerated in years, or months, now accelerates in hours, even minutes.
however I did have a good grapefruit earlier, thank you for asking https://t.co/svATFv7ek8

Times are hard out there! And Elmo’s followers have learned through Sesame Street that honesty is the best policy.
But that’s a lot to dump on Elmo. Especially when they’re still learning to process their own emotions. Heck, even Big Bird is GOING THROUGH IT these days.
Thankfully, Elmo was not overwhelmed by such a terrifying ordeal. In fact, they even learned another great life lesson for it.
“Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you.❤️ #EmotionalWellBeing,” Elmo tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.
Next time maybe we’ll stick to learning about letters and numbers. Because, frankly, Elmo shouldn’t have to know about the horrors of the world.
We’ll leave that kind of brutality to Bert, Ernie and Oscar.
