Twitch deletes post about ExtraEmily after sparking backlash over 24-hour ban

Twitch has removed a promotional post about streamer ExtraEmily, which they posted just hours after lifting her suspension for driving through a red light while streaming.

The now-deleted post, which showed them attempting to create a version of her in sims-like game inZOI, was shared on Twitch’s X account on April 14. But, it quickly drew mockery and criticism, as it came almost immediately after her 24-hour suspension for dangerous on-stream behavior was lifted.

ExtraEmily, known for her high-energy IRL content and affiliation with OTK, was banned on April 13 after driving through a red light while streaming. Twitch, which has explicit rules against engaging in dangerous activities, particularly driving, on stream, issued a temporary suspension lasting 24 hours.

Replies to the post included one from streamer Nmplol, who sarcastically said, “This was awesome! I love you Twitch!”

Another responded, “yes, let’s create the streamer that regularly endangers people’s lives.”

While Twitch did not comment publicly on the ban, as is their policy, the platform’s attempt to spotlight her shortly after the incident sparked renewed criticism. Many users saw it as tone-deaf, given the nature of her suspension.

Despite being unbanned, ExtraEmily hasn’t streamed since Friday, April 11, but told fans on Discord she would return soon.

She was previously banned in 2023 for texting while driving. Her ban lasted 18 hours, and she said she was “reformed” on her return stream.

“I completely understand why I was banned because I was looking at my phone while driving and from that ban, I have learned from my mistake and I’m going to make sure I grow from it and not look at my phone ever again while streaming. So all I have to do is just turn off the phone screen, I don’t have to have a phone in my hand.”

Her channel grew significantly in 2024, averaging over 12,000 concurrent viewers throughout most of the year.
