TSA demands travelers stop hiding animals in “weird places” on their bodies

The TSA is asking flyers to stop smuggling animals through airport security after a woman was caught with turtles stuffed in her bra.

In a public warning shared in late July, the Transportation Security Administration called out a bizarre case at Miami International Airport involving a Florida woman attempting to bring two live turtles through a checkpoint wedged inside her brassiere.

“OK friends, please – and we cannot emphasize this enough – stop hiding animals in weird places on your body,” the TSA said in a statement.

“A Florida woman traveling out of Miami International Airport recently attempted to take a pair of turtles through our checkpoint, and the turtles were stuffed inside… yes, you guessed it… her brassiere.”

The agency emphasized that pets are allowed through security, but they need to be removed from carriers and carried, not concealed. “Notice we said ‘carried’ and not ‘hidden underneath your clothing,’” they added.

Unfortunately, the sneaky attempt to evade security ended in tragedy, with one of the turtles dying and the other turned over to the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The incident comes just weeks after TSA announced a loosening of restrictions by allowing travelers to keep their shoes on during screening. Despite this latest animal concealment attempt, it doesn’t seem like the TSA has plans to implement stricter policies on clothing or pet travel.

“You turtle-ly can travel with pets,” the TSA joked, “but please travel with them safely.”
