The truth behind Bill Hader’s mysterious Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special absence is revealed as a slew of stars reunite for the big show.
The U.S. Sun can exclusively share the reason behind the SNL icon missing the legendary sketch show’s milestone night on Sunday.
Fans first noticed Hader, 46, was going to be missing from the three-hour event when the show ran a promo clip.
The promo shows a view of New York City from the perspective of a car driving through the streets that are lined with massive Post-it notes with the names of comedy legends attending the event.
Notably absent from the Post-it note promo, however, was Hader’s name.
Fans were furious and turned to X to lash out about their favorite comedian, and therefore his beloved NYC club kid character Stefon, being missing.
“Where is Bill Hader? I want a Stefon comeback,” one fan wrote, while another took a more dramatic tone: “GIVE ME BILL HADER OR GIVE ME DEATH.
A source close to fan favorite told The U.S. Sun that despite rumblings that a falling out between Hader and show creator Lorne Michaels had kept him from the big event, that’s simply not the case.
They said, “Bill has a long-standing scheduling conflict.”
It’s unclear exactly what the conflict is that’s keeping the eight-year veteran of the show away – though whatever it is, it’s probably more important than the opening of New York’s hottest club.
Hader also previously revealed some of the difficulties he had working the grind of the weekly sketch show.
“When I was on SNL, I was a bit of a basket case. It could not have been easy on my wife at the time. I was so consumed with work and anxiety,” he told Variety in 2019.
Still, fans vented their frustration on X, where one fumed, “Where is Bill Hader? I want a Stefon comeback.”
Another demanded, “Show us Bill Hader!” and a third warned, “I’m going to crash out if they don’t announce Bill Hader soon.”
Someone else went even further, declaring, “GIVE ME BILL HADER OR GIVE ME DEATH!”
While fans won’t get to see Hader – or his beloved Stefon – the guest list is sure to delight anyone who likes a good laugh.
WHO’S EXPECTED
SNL favorites such as Chevy Chase, Amy Poehler, Eddie Murphy, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Laraine Newman, Will Ferrell, Maya Rudolph, Pete Davidson, Kristen Wiig, Adam Sandler, Maya Rudolph, Tracy Morgan, Seth Meyers, Kenan Thompson, Jason Sudeikis, and Chris Rock, Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kate McKinnon, and Andy Samberg are expected.
Meanwhile, some A-list outsiders will also grace the stage, including appearances from Kim Kardashian, Martin Short, Miley Cyrus, Bad Bunny, Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Pedro Pascal, Peyton Manning, Quinta Brunson, Robert De Niro, Sabrina Carpenter, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, and Woody Harrelson.
Meanwhile, Kim and Pete are set to reunite at the SNL studios for the first time since calling it quits as a couple two years ago.
The former flames famously found love after Kim hosted the show in 2021.
They shared an onscreen kiss during a sketch based on Aladdin.
Pete and Kim dated for nine months before ending things in 2022.
Both the reality star and the Bupkis comedian have moved on, though it will be the rare event where they’ll both be in attendance.
