Trevor Donovan chatted about starring in the new original romantic comedy “Grounded in Love,” where he reunites with Danica McKellar.

This film will premiere on Great American Pure Flix on August 7th and on Great American Family on September 27th. It is adapted from the bestselling book by Angela Correll.

Synopsis of ‘Grounded in Love’

Annie (Danica McKellar) is a career flight attendant who loves her job and traveling the world. She is dealt a blow when an airlines merger causes her to be furloughed, a setback further compounded by breaking up with a selfish boyfriend.

Looking for a reprieve, Annie drives from Manhattan to her grandmother’s Kentucky farm.

After a few character-building days, life on the farm ultimately brings Annie unexpected blessings in the form of rediscovering her faith, and reconnecting with her handsome childhood friend, Jake (Trevor Donovan), who has just moved back from the big city to create a more “grounded” and intentional life for himself.

Experience making ‘Grounded in Love’

On his experience in “Grounded in Love,” Donovan said, “It was one of those rare projects where everything just works.”

“Great script, honest characters, and a beautiful setting. I felt connected to it from the start,” he noted.

Playing Jake

On playing Jake, Donovan remarked, “Jake is steady. He walked away from the grind of the banking world to get back to something real.”

“He is loyal, thoughtful, and he doesn’t need to be loud to lead. That quiet strength is something I admire,” he noted.

Filming in Kentucky

Donovan opened up about filming yet again in Kentucky. “I loved it,” he exclaimed.

“There is something about Kentucky that slows you down and makes things feel more grounded,” he said.

“The pace, the people, the landscape, it all adds to the authenticity of the film. Hope to film there more,” he added.

Working with Danica McKellar as his leading lady

On working with Danica McKellar, he said, “Danica is great. We’ve worked together before and already had a solid rhythm. She brings a lot of warmth and confidence to the role, and that really shows on screen.”

Lessons learned from this screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Donovan reflected, “That slowing down isn’t such a bad thing. There is value in getting your hands dirty, and tuning out the noise once in a while.”

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, he shared, “I have a few things brewing. Recently, I wrapped ‘Where the Wind Blows,’ which is based on the bestselling novel by Caroline Fyffe.”

“Also, I’m gearing up to start a new Christmas movie. Can’t share the details just yet, but it’s coming soon,” he foreshadowed.

‘When Hope Calls’ Season 2

Donovan recalled his time in “When Hope Calls” Season 2. “It was a good ride, literally,” he said.

“The show has a lot of heart, and Season 2 brought a bit more action into the mix. I really enjoyed getting back in the saddle; riding horses is something I picked up during ‘Texas Rising,’ and it stuck with me,” he elaborated.

“It was great being part of a story that’s rooted in community and connection,” he added.

Closing thoughts on ‘Grounded in Love’

For fans and viewers, he stated about “Grounded in Love,” “Don’t underestimate the power of going home.”

“This film is about rediscovering your roots and reconnecting with what matters. If it makes people think about what they’ve been missing, then that’s a win,” Donovan concluded.
