Treasure hunter Justin Posey is featured prominently in the new Netflix 3-part mini-series Gold & Greed: The Hunt for Fenn’s Treasure about the legendary nationwide treasure hunt for the $2M+ treasure buried by Forrest Fenn. Spoiler alert: the show ends with the allure of a new treasure out there for the seeking.

For those unfamiliar with the story of Fenn’s Treasure, it was a treasure hunt spanning the Rocky Mountains that was launched by Forrest Fenn, an eccentric art dealer from New Mexico. The treasure was valued at around $2 million though once it was found it was sold in bulk at auction for $1.3 million.

Forrest Fenn wrote a book titled The Thrill of the Chase which included clues on where to find the treasure as well as occasionally releasing details on social media… It took treasure hunters about 10 years to find Fenn’s Treasure but it was eventually found by a 32-year-old treasure blogger named Jack Steuf.

The hunt for Forrest Fenn’s treasure, the characters involved, lives lost, and the lengths people went to search for the hidden millions is being told in a new 3-part Netflix series titled Gold & Greed: The Hunt for Fenn’s Treasure. Justin Posey is one of the prominent characters in the series and was one of the most avid hunters of Fenn’s Treasure… He now has a treasure hunt of his own.

The documentary ends with Justin Posey traveling to the spot that many believe Fenn’s Treasure was found for a moment of catharsis… Then things get interesting.

New Treasure Hunt Worth Untold Amounts Of Money?! Count Us In

Justin Posey then reveals he is launching his own hunt as an extensive of Fenn’s Treasure. Similar to Fenn’s Treasure, Justin Posey’s has an accompanying book and website.

Posey also looked into the camera in the Netflix documentary to say he had included clues to the whereabouts of the treasure during his Netflix interviews. The producers/editors had no knowledge of what he was doing so it’s unclear if all/some/any of those clues made the final cut but presumably they did.

‘Beyond The Map’s Edge’ is the name of Justin Posey’s treasure hunt and the new treasure is THICK!

According to the website, it is a 60-pound treasure including “PAMP Suisse kilogram bars, gold flakes, gold dust, and more… Large loose emeralds, rubies, and deep purple amethysts… Filled with artifacts throughout history-the 3rd century Kushan Dynasty, the Crusades, the Byzantine Empire, even the Persian Shi’ite Buyid Dynasty. I included one of the oldest coins ever made by man during the Lydian empire around 561 BC… A large meteorite and other special pieces… A cryptocurrency component that grows with book sales.”

The accompany book is currently for sale on Amazon (that’s not an affiliate link), only in hard copy, and it sells for $49. It has a map and is filled with, presumably, all the clues treasure hunters need in order to find Justin Posey’s new treasure.

Included on the website is this poem that is CRUCIAL to the hunt:

Over on Reddit, people are already getting to work on finding the treasure. Some people believe unlike Forest Fenn’s treasure in Yellowstone, Justin’s has ‘strong Alaska vibes.’ This person suggests it his hidden in Talkeetna, Alaska just outside of Anchorage. Some more interesting clues from Reddit can be found here.

One of the cool subplots, I thought, from the Netflix documentary is how Fenn’s Treasure brought together certain groups of people. One of the characters used it as a chance to travel around the Rocky Mountain region with his family on a real-life treasure hunt and I just loved the thought of hitting the road as a kid with my parents in search of actual buried treasure.

Hopefully, Justin’s new Beyond The Map’s Edge Treasure hunt lasts a few years and picks up the same attention as Fenn’s Treasure, but without all of the crazies that came out to harass Forrest Fenn’s family which they touch on in Gold & Greed: The Hunt for Fenn’s Treasure. If you haven’t watched that on Netflix yet, go check it out!
