Overall, plane passenger satisfaction has increased in the last year, but not all airlines are reaping the benefits. JD Power’s 2025 North American Airline Satisfaction Study shows that JetBlue, Delta Air Lines, and Southwest pulled out the highest customer satisfaction rates. At the bottom of the list? Frontier Airlines, with a 12th-place finish. The results aren’t shocking to U.S. travelers, who’ve been dubbing Frontier the No. 1 worst airline on Reddit. Keep reading to learn why.

Frontier is the equivalent of public transportation, according to fliers.

Frontier is professionally known as a budget airline; however, among travelers, the carrier has earned nicknames like “Peasant Airlines” and “The Greyhound of the skies.”

“Flew them Sunday and they welcomed us with ‘Welcome to America’s best airline.’ I literally laughed out loud!!!” one person said in a Reddit thread. “They are the least welcoming airline I’ve ever flown.”

“I would walk before I flew Frontier,” another chimed in.

“I think I would rather walk to my destination than gamble with this joke of an airline,” a third agreed.

“The seats are hard as rocks, the check in process is a mess and don’t even get me started on the passengers. I flew Frontier ONE time and will never do it again,” reads another comment.

To those considering Frontier, one person warned, “Don’t expect a drink or a snack.” Another noted, “the seats are also extremely uncomfortable, especially if you are tall,” noted another.

Frontier charges customers ridiculous “junk fees.”

Frontier’s slogan may be “Low Fares Done Right,” but its Optional Services can rack up a hefty bill. These offerings include baggage, booking, modification, and cancellation fees. Interestingly, frequent travelers say a Frontier ticket can wind up costing you more than a basic economy ticket on United or Delta.

“One day people will learn that the money they spend to make up for Frontier’s mistakes is usually more than the ‘savings’ if they just booked a flight on a normal reliable airline,” said a Redditor.

“After you pay all the junk fees, you’re getting [expletive] service for the same price as legacy carriers,” added another.

“”Every time I’ve used a budget airline like Spirit or Frontier, there have been problems with the flight that lead to me spending more on a one way than I would have on a round trip had I booked with someone else earlier,” said a third. “Never has it been worth it.”

Per Frontier, additional fees can include:

  • Carry-on bag
  • Checked bag
  • Oversized checked bag ($75 each way)
  • Overweight bags ($75-$100 each way)
  • Online check-in ($5 per passenger)
  • Flight change ($49 to $99 per passenger)
  • Flight cancellation ($99 per passenger, per direction)

Travelers say Frontier has the worst customer service of all airlines.

A Frontier ticket doesn’t come with friendly customer service either, according to frequent travelers.

“Frontier is the worst of the worst,” one person wrote on Reddit. “If you appreciate customer service, they are not your airline.”

Another user doubled down on that statement: “Never try to waste your time to talk to ‘customer service’ since it doesn’t exist.”

“Yes, you can save money. However, they are unreliable with poor customer service in the event something does happen,” reads a post. “I would fly them if I were in a pinch, but they are a last resort for me.”

Others said Frontier customer service agents make it impossible to reschedule flights, and you have to chase them down for a refund.

“They charged me the fare difference to change the date of my flight to one day earlier, then on the day cancelled the flight, moved us back to the original cheaper flight and refused to refund us. They are now fighting my card company,” shared one customer, who had purchased Frontier’s “highest tier of business package.”

“Never ever fly with them ever again. They cannot be trusted,” they concluded.
