Nicolas Cage may not be back for National Treasure: Edge of History (yet), but treasure hunting never rests. In the first official trailer for Disney+’s upcoming National Treasure: The Edge of History series, we get to meet our newest adventurous crew. While we got a brief tease of the show before, this is the first time we get to dive deep. This National Treasure series trailer also lets us know when Edge of History will release. But the overall take-home message? Treasure is out there, and it begs to be found.
Although, as mentioned, Nicolas Cage’s Benjamin Franklin Gates won’t be making an appearance, the trailer for the National Treasure: Edge of History series carries with it the feeling of the original films. Helping to weave the stories together are Harvey Keitel and Justin Bartha. They’ll return to play Peter Sadusky and Riley Poole, respectively. In the trailer, Keitel’s character seems to serve as a kind of mentor to our new main character, Jess, played by Lisette Olivera. And his presence certainly adds to the continuity.
But, of course, National Treasure: Edge of History and its trailer are all about our next generation of treasure hunters. A release for the show shares:
The Disney+ Original series National Treasure: Edge of History is an expansion of the National Treasure movie franchise told from the point of view of a young heroine, Jess – a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer in search of answers about her family – who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.
Jess, of course, will have some trusted friends around her to help in the treasure hunting and adventuring. Although, ominously, Peter Sadusky reminds her that she can trust no one. We hope we don’t see any divisions in the friend group because we like them all already.
National Treasure: Edge of History will also star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who seems determined to get her hands on some treasure as well. But we can’t be too mad at her because she already feels like an epic character. We wonder who exactly the Daughters of the Plumed Serpent are and how they’ll feature into the show. According to D23 Expo, we’ll also visit the Alamo and Graceland during the show’s adventures. And we may even learn what’s on page 47 in the Presidents’ Book of Secrets. Exciting stuff.
National Treasure: Edge of History now has an official release date. The series will release on December 14. It will have a two-episode premiere.
