The 30 Rock actor revealed on the red carpet at the 2011 SAG Awards: “I’d like to thank Tanisha for donating my kidney to me.”
At the time of the announcement, the pair had already called it quits.
Tracy has suffered from numerous health problems including diabetes mellitus and alcoholism which contributed to his kidney failure.
Who was Tracy Morgan’s second wife?
A year after receiving a kidney from Tanisha, Tracy announced in September 2011, on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards that he was engaged to model Megan Wollover.
Megan agreed to be his wife six months earlier when he proposed in San Francisco.
In 2015, Tracy said: “The very first thing I said to Megan when I met her was, “You are going to be my wife.” No joke, before I even said “Hello,” I knew we would be married one day.”
The pair had first met on a blind date orchestrated by a mutual friend in 2011.
Before they could walk down the aisle, Megan gave birth to the couple’s first child Maven Sonae in July 2013 in New York.
On June 7, 2014, Tracy was involved in a fatal collision when a Walmart tractor-trailer hit his limousine on the New Jersey Turnpike, killing his friend and fellow comedian James McNair and leaving Tracy in a wheelchair for five months.
Throughout intensive rehab and recovery, Megan stayed by his side.
She later said: “It wasn’t even a thought for me. I was there. I felt I had to be.
“At that point, he wasn’t my husband, but we were actually supposed to be getting married that summer.
“When you choose to share a life with somebody, God forbid something bad would happen, you want to choose the partner that’s going to ride with you through the good and the bad.”
The impending wedding was a major motivator for the comedian who had to learn how to stand, sit, and walk again after the accident.
He said at the time: “I don’t want to walk my wife down the aisle with a cane or in a wheelchair.
“So I had to go hard with the therapy; I had to get better. There was no ifs, ands or buts about it.”
Tracy also revealed how he fought to get out of his two-week coma for his then eight-year-old daughter.
He said: “People don’t just come out of comas.
“I had to fight. I knew I had to be here for her. I wanted to see my daughter.
“I’ve always wanted a daughter and have a female version of me and I’m looking at it every day as she grows under my gaze. And I love her.”
The pair eventually married in August 2015 but they filed for divorce five years later in July 2020, citing irreconcilable differences
During divorce proceedings, the couple argued over the custody of their daughter with Megan wanting sole custody and Tracy asking for joint custody.
