TODAY fans have become outraged after seeing a fan travel nearly 3,000 miles to meet Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.
The eager Hoda and Savannah fan arrived at a recent episode of the morning show hoping to meet the pair.
Unfortunately, the fan missed out on both anchors on the day he and his family chose to see the Today Show.
He and his mother, father, and sibling all came to see their favorite anchors while wearing custom hoodies with Hoda, 59, and Savannah, 52, emblazoned on the front.
Regular NBC Today fill-in Jacob Soboroff was on hand to chat with the California-based fans when they showed up outside the Today Show Plaza.
He shared a clip of their encounter to his Instagram page, showing that everyone in the family had a hoodie, not just one fan.
“So sorry to this California family who travelled 2,800 miles to meet @hodakotb and @savannahguthrie today… and all they got was a conversation with your trusty fill-in,” he captioned the clip.
“We were thrilled to meet them and I’m happy they they got to say hi to their favorites this morning!”
Though Hoda and Savannah were out for the day, anchors Dylan Dreyer, Peter Alexander and Laura Jarrett were also around to say hello to the family.
But Hoda didn’t just leave the family hanging as she addressed them via her personal Instagram page.

“Oh no!! So sorry we missed you! Thank you for coming! The sweatshirt is next level!” Hoda wrote, posting a photo of one fan in his blue custom sweatshirt.
Despite her kind response to the fan’s actions, however, others were not so forgiving of the anchors being missing.
“He traveled all that way and you’re both not there and that’s all you say? I think a full expenses paid invite back is called for. I mean seriously…” one insisted.
“Y’all better get him on the show!!!” another demanded.
“What…he should be invited back!!!” a third begged.
Others were more understanding, but realistic, with some hoping the fan could eventually go on the show to meet Hoda and Savannah.
“People don’t realize they have a 25% chance of seeing Hoda and Jenna there live. Too many taped shows. Get some hosts that want to actually work 5 days a week,” one commenter wrote.
“I knew @hodakotb would acknowledge these people when she got word. Hoda you are a gem…everyone from coast to coast knows it,” another posted.
‘MERRY MERRY’
Hoda was off-duty when the fan traveled to come see her.
The anchor had been away from work on a hiatus from the morning show alongside Savannah.
She gave fans a sneak peek at what she had been up to with a selfie of her and her daughters on Instagram.
The trio were pictured smiling on a beach dressed in long-sleeve holiday shirts.
Although there wasn’t any sunlight, their grins brightened the photo tremendously.
For a little razzle-dazzle, Hope and Haley threw up the peace sign.
Hoda had the camera lifted so the vast rippling ocean water and the line of sea rocks could be captured in the pic.
The beach’s exotic beauty dominated the image.
“Merry merry,” Hoda captioned.
While Hoda was enjoying time away from Today with family, TV host Peter Alexander, 47, sat in for Hoda.
Jacob Soboroff, 40, and Dylan Dreyer, 42, joined Peter at the news desk on December 26.
TAKING IT ON
Jacob will be in all week, so fans know they can tune in with a familiar face waiting for them as December and the holiday season is soon on their way out.
Hoda revealed last week that she and Savannah would be taking an extended break from Today.
Savannah Guthrie, 51, will be celebrating her birthday on Wednesday.
Hoda said the pair won’t be back on TV until the new year.
The show did not reveal when the entire cast will return to their posts.
STRANGE DAY
Today underwent a strange change for its Christmas Day broadcast.
As Christmas-themed graphics played at the start of Monday’s episode, the narrating voice revealed it was a “special edition” of the program.
Among the changes to the show was that the program didn’t open with Savannah and Hoda sitting at their desk.
Instead, the two sat on the show’s white couch with co-stars Al Roker, 69, Craig Melvin, 44, and Carson Daly, 50.
“Good morning, everybody! Welcome to Today, and Merry Christmas!” Savannah said to open the show.
“We’re all here, and we’re so happy when you join us on this special day. Christmas morning, here we go.”
Hoda added to fans: “We’re happy to be sharing it with you.”
Though the team of hosts were all there together on set, they weren’t there live on Christmas.
In the corner of the screen, NBC revealed another one of the changes to the broadcast – portions had been “previously recorded,” including this segment with the hosts.
It’s unclear when the hosts filmed their pre-taped portions of Monday’s episode as Hoda and Savannah began their breaks before the start of Friday’s broadcast.
To ensure Today was still sharing up-to-date news stories with viewers, Savannah threw it over to correspondent Garrett Haake to help anchor the program live.
