TMZ was once looked down upon by many as an unreliable source of news, having been caught breaking big-time stories that weren’t always true. But, lately, the website has been on a heater, constantly breaking big news stories like the untimely death of Kobe Bryant before all of the major news sources.

But, on Thursday, their reputation took a big hit, as a reported Beyoncé appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois never materialized.

We don’t want to dive too far into the politics here, but the four-day long quadrennial convention came to an end on Thursday with the traditional speaking slot of the party’s nominee. Of course, that is Vice President Kamala Harris, who assumed the top spot after President Joseph R. Biden Jr. dropped out of the race in July.

All day long, rumors on Twitter spread of a special guest appearing at the DNC in an open speaking slot on the schedule. The most common rumors centered around the world’s two biggest music stars in Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

It became pretty clear it would not be Taylor Swift, and betting odds of Beyoncé appearing skyrocketed. Then, TMZ reported that she would indeed be at the convention.

But, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Beyoncé would not be appearing, and they had the story correct. The Freedom singer was nowhere to be found as the DNC came to an end.

Now, TMZ has egg on its face, something that the publisher hasn’t had very frequently lately.
