Earlier this week, Amazon MGM Studios announced they had signed a deal with Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve to direct the 26th film in the James Bond franchise. The 26th Bond will be the first 007 film under the ownership of Amazon.

While there have been worries about how Amazon will handle the James Bond property, the hiring of Denis Villeneuve was an undoubted grand slam for the studio, as he’s arguably THE event filmmaker working today other than Christopher Nolan (don’t confuse the word ‘event’ with quality).

With Villeneuve now locked into the director’s chair, the process of getting a script together will begin. The studio will also begin the casting process, with reports indicating that Amazon has three specific top choices in mind.

According to a report from Variety, Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi are atop Amazon’s list for the iconic role of 007.

“Insiders say that the studio and producers are interested in casting a British actor under the age of 30, with Jacob Elordi (Saltburn), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) at the top of the list. (Elordi is Australian, but that would not be a deal-breaker as far as Amazon is concerned; remember Aussie George Lazenby starred in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.)”

Unless Holland pulls out a performance in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey that we simply did not know he was capable of, he currently represents not just the worse choice of the three but something of a disastrous pick — beyond not displaying much acting range or pure movie star charisma in recent years, Holland is also 5’7″.

While Amazon has yet to publicly confirm its production timeline for Bond 26, reports indicate they’re hoping to release the film in 2028. It’ll certainly be a while until Villeneuve’s schedule opens up, as reports indicate he’s set to begin production on Dune: Messiah this summer.
