The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Robert Newman (ex-Ashland Locke) recently posted a goodbye message that confirmed Ashland Locke’s death and the end of his contract with the show. Ashland is indeed dead and gone, so Newman wanted to thank fans for their support.
In a video shared on social media, Robert Newman talked about wrapping up his stint as “head villain” and offered his gratitude.
Since things were initially a bit up in the air regarding Ashland’s fate, Newman provided some clarification.
“Just to clarify, the scenes you saw the other day – Ashland dying at the hands of Nick – were in fact my last scenes on the show…the end of my contract,” Newman revealed.
Those scenes were shot around five weeks ago, so now Newman said he was home with his family about 3,000 miles away from LA.
It sounds like Newman is enjoying the chance to reconnect with his loved ones, but he’s also tackling a new role.
Newman explained that he was starting rehearsals at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan.
That’s where Newman will be playing Dennis Dupree in Rock of Ages the musical from August 9-21.
However, Newman wanted to take this opportunity to share what a great experience he had at Y&R.
After offering a big “thank you” to the fans, Newman gave a shout-out to the cast and crew as well.
Although Newman is now off the show, he assured everyone that he “very much enjoyed” playing the character of Ashland Locke.
Newman acknowledged that some viewers struggled with the transition from Richard Burgi’s Ashland to his own, but he was thankful for his turn as Ashland and for the lovely time he had.
As for what the future holds, Robert Newman didn’t rule out a return to Y&R in some form. “Maybe I’ll see you again one day,” Newman said. “You never know!”
