The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair) made history at the Daytime Emmy Awards. She became the first black actress to be awarded the Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category.
Morgan’s return to Y&R in 2019 followed a one-year absence after her run (2013-2018) as Amanda’s identical twin sister, Hilary Hamilton. Morgan was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category in 2018 and 2020.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Hilary Hamilton Was Incredible
Morgan earned accolades during her first stint on this iconic steamer. Hilary originally came to Genoa City, Wisconsin, seeking revenge against Neil Winters (played by the late, great Kristoff St. John). She married him and later fell in love with and married Devon Hamilton (Bryton James).
Hilary’s impact on GC was enormous, ending with the tragic death of her and Devon’s unborn child following a car crash that Lily Ashby (her last name at the time, played Christel Khalil) accidentally caused. Hilary died days later.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – What A Return And Surprise Entrance
Being clever in daytime is challenging. But TPTB not only crafted what became a terrific comeback vehicle, decision-makers also masterfully cloaked Morgan’s return.
She returned to the set in 2019, recording scenes as Hilary’s spirit. That was genius, as news of the actor’s comeback was linked to a brief Hilary flashback.
However, during that time in the plot, Devon went to the door of his penthouse to greet a visitor. He answered and saw the exact image of his late wife. Yes, Amanda was standing in the hallway while the audience applauded across the globe.
Y&R has not continued Hilary’s story. Instead, it created a brand new character who has a backstory all her own, and has written a wonderful new love story that involves Devon.
Morgan’s efforts on this iconic soap opera have been evident, dating back to 2013. Now, she has been rightly honored.
