The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that there’s a new special report, which affects an important part of the show’s creative team. According to insiders who spoke with TheWrap, Y&R Head Writer and Co-Executive Producer Josh Griffith has fired the whole breakdown writing staff.
Griffith reportedly got rid of all five writers in this position and intends to take over their duties himself, so this is obviously a huge behind-the-scenes shakeup.
Breakdown writers are meant to help map out stories across various episodes, but Griffith will be handling the breakdowns on his own based on these insider accounts.
The decision is supposed to help the show cut costs, but it means five people are now without jobs.
In December 2022, Anthony Morina was also fired from the co-executive producer spot, which led to Josh Griffith becoming Y&R’s sole showrunner.
Now Griffith is apparently flexing his power and eliminating key players to make his vision more cost-effective.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) negotiations are rapidly approaching, so it’s interesting that Griffith made these job cuts ahead of them.
The show has a major milestone coming up since they’re celebrating 50 years on the air, but insiders insist Griffith is willing to make these changes and risk rocking the boat.
Of course, some fans might feel like the boat actually needs to be rocked!
