On Friday, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” finally hit theaters.
At one point, the action/comedy starring “Game of Thrones” alum Pedro Pascal and “Pig” star Nicolas Cage playing a fictionalized version of himself had a 100% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Since the film was officially released on Friday, April 22, the critic rating has dropped to 89%, while the audience rating still remains high at 86%.
Here’s a look at some of the most notable audience reviews about Nicky’s star-studded adventure.
‘The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent’ Is ‘A Delight’
Audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes seemed mostly positive.
Mary P wrote, “Wonderful flick. Gorgeous scenery. Really great story and acting. Funny film. Nicolas Cage is brilliant. I wish Hollywood would make more films like this that are pure entertainment instead of CGI extravaganzas. This was a delight.”
Kelvin G. wrote, “This was a genuinely hilarious movie and everyone knew what role to play. The metaness of it really added to the hilarity and it also was the perfect length. Definitely one of better Nicolas Cage movies in a while.”
Barron wrote, “If you’re a die-hard Nicholas Cage fan like myself, you’re going to love this movie. Even if you’re not a Nicholas Cage fan, I think you’ll still find this movie quite enjoyable. It has plenty of funny moments that give some good laughs, and it has lots of callbacks to his older films. ignore the troll ratings and the one star reviews these people just can’t stand to see Nicolas Cage succeed after some of his less than stellar movies. I for one am really enjoying this comeback!”
Tres wrote, “Enjoyed a lot more than I expected and I expected to like it. Nick and Pedro have an amazing chemistry on screen. Very funny and seemed like a fresh idea.”
‘The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent’ Is ‘Not As Funny As Expected’
However, not everyone was a fan of the film.
Stuart S wrote, “Some LOL moments, but generally not as funny as expected.”
Jacqueline M wrote, “Not one of Nick Cages best roles, disappointed.”
Chris C called it, “a cute little movie that had some funny moments.”
Sandra B wrote, “Wasn’t sure where the movie was going. The characters were adorable, but the film never gained traction and I lost patience after the first 20 minutes. Cage is a talented actor and this movie had some good acting overall, but it just couldn’t seem to grab my attention. I caught myself warmly anticipating the rolling of the credits.”
Catherine J wrote, “So so. Did not meet my expectations. Funny parts but couldnt follow plot if there was one ! Thinking I should see it again to see if I missed it, but. Was Cage or his cohort driving the plot?not worth the time for a 2nd viewing right now. Curious to see what my co-workers think. May inspire a good debate!”
Amy wrote, “This was the stupidest movie ever. Poor attempt of a comeback for Nicholas Cage.”
The Guy Who Saw It wrote, “Not as funny as everybody is saying, but probably worth it to watch once.”
So although audiences remain divided, it seems that even people who didn’t enjoy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” still think it’s worth a watch… at least once.
