THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY’s Showrunner Is Already Thinking About Potential Spinoffs

The Umbrella Academy’s fourth and final season is here. Some of us who’ve watched the series already know how it ends for the Hargreeves siblings. We won’t spoil anything but, as usual, we are always looking ahead to what’s next. This time-traveling world full of interesting characters and collectives seems quite ripe for a spinoff series or film. The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman previously said he was open to spinoffs and now he gives us a little more information about what one could look like.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Blackman affirms that any spinoff ultimately rests in Netflix’s hands. But he’s certainly thought of some ideas. “I think there’s a great story in young Hazel [Cameron Britton] and Cha-Cha [Mary J. Blige] down the road,” he said. “There’s obviously the Commission. I think there’s wonderful stories also with some other secondary characters. Then what’s wonderful about our world is we could crossover with our main characters anytime we want to because in a wonderful time-traveling world, you can end up with anyone anytime you want. There are ideas, there’s things I’ve talked about, and if Netflix decides down the road, I’d love to do it. But ultimately Netflix will make that decision. I hope this isn’t the end of Umbrella Academy. I hope there’s another iteration somewhere down the road.”

A series about the Commission could be a vibe. But sometimes we have to simply let a story end where it ends and be okay with moving on. Everything doesn’t have to be a universe with spinoffs and such. We will see what happens with The Umbrella Academy and any potential spinoffs in the future.
